How many girls per team will the Baltimore Stix Hockey Club carry?
We will carry approximately 8-10 girls per team.  There are 5 players and one goalie on the court at one time.

If I try out for the Baltimore Stix field Hockey Club and make it, what will the commitment be like?
Players are expected to attend all indoor practices and tournaments for the indoor season. Practices will be held on Monday evenings at McDonogh. All teams will be participating in the Garrison indoor league (Saturday mornings).  All teams will also participate in at least four tournaments. Tournaments may be on Saturday or Sunday and they usually run all day. The bulk of the tournaments take place every weekend in January and February.

Where do you practice?
The Baltimore Stix field hockey club will practice at McDonogh School located in Owings Mills, Md.

How much does it cost and what do these fees cover?

Each player will need to pay a $425.00 registration fee.  This will cover coach’s expenses, equipment and practice space. Tournaments and league play are extra. U16 and U19 uniforms are also an extra fee.

Do I have to join US Field Hockey Association?
Yes - all club members must have a USFHA membership to participate.  If you need a membership or a copy of your card, go to the USFHA website (www.usfieldhockey.org) and follow the Membership link.

What should I expect to pay for tournaments?
The costs for tournaments will vary.  The fees will be divided by the amount of players coming to that particular tournament.  They can run anywhere between 50.00 to 100.00 dollars per tournament. Festival, The Disney Showcase, NITS and Focus Challenge will be more.

How do I know what team I should try-out for this season?

How does Baltimore Stix handle playing time?
All players will receive a fair amount of playing time during league play.  For tournaments, playing time does not have to be equal. It is up to the discretion of the coach.


How will the teams be chosen and who will be choosing them?
Evaluations will take place over two or three days. All prospective players should make an effort to attend all days. The Baltimore Stix Field Hockey Club and outside evaluators will be selecting the teams.

Players will be evaluated during tryouts based on:
1. Attitude
2. Athleticism & Potential
3.  Field sense
4. Work ethic & persistence
5. Coach-ability & ability to execute direction
6. Skills

Once a player is a member of a Baltimore Stix Field Hockey Club, will they be required to try out again each year?
Yes, each player must try out each year for the purpose of determining team placement. A player always has the opportunity to move up or down within their age bracket.
